The NYC Council passed a bill prohibiting racial discrimination in city assisted housing developments on February 16, 1951
I have mostly been focusing on the lives and legacies of incredible people during Black History Month this year, but it is also important to recognize those landmark moments in law and policy that have come to impact the Black community in significant ways. The passing of a bill prohibiting racial discrimination in NYC housing is one of those significant events. If you have a library card (highly recommend), you may be able to access this New York Times Article from February 17, 1951, about the passing of the NYC bill the day before. Here are a couple of screenshots:

Seventeen years later (and only one week after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.), the Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed by Congress.
