The NAACP was founded on February 12, 1909


You have probably heard of the NAACP, America’s oldest and largest civil rights organization, at some point in your life. If you’re not already familiar with its founding, or how it grew from an earlier organization, you can learn more about that group, which was called the Niagara Movement. The Library of Congress also has some interesting archival materials about the founding and early years of the NAACP that you can check out.
